Wansfell Pike summit

Highlight • Summit

Wonderful views along Windermere and the valleys at the top make the climb worthwhile. Then a slow steady descent through fields and pretty woodland back to Ambleside.

Wansfell Pike

Highlight • Viewpoint

Wansfell is a beautiful fell in the Lake District that has a long 1 mile (1.5 km) summit ridge with two tops, namely Wansfell Pike, 1,581 fi (482 m), in the south and Baystones, 1,601 ft (488 m) in the north. Wansfell Pike is considered the true summit, despite its lower height, but it is regarded as the one with the most wonderful scenic vistas out of the two. The connecting ridge is also worthy of note with views of the western peaks of the Kentmere Horseshoe.

Baystones (Wansfell) Summit

Highlight • Viewpoint

Baystones, also known as Wansfell, is a 1,601-foot (486 m) Wainwright fell in the Far Eastern Lake District National Park. It's not the highest of fells but it certainly takes up a lot of room between Ambleside and the Troutbeck valley. Wansfell Pike top (which is fairly commonly mistaken for the Wainwright summit) is also worth a visit whilst exploring this fell. A beautiful view down Windermere and across to the fells of the Kentmere Horseshoe are my favourite things about Baystones.

Troutbeck Church

Highlight • Historical Site

"Troutbeck Church has an unusually large and very fine east window, the work of the Pre-Raphaelite artists Burne-Jones, Madox-Brown and Morris."

From the book Walking with Beatrix Potter by Norman & June Buckley

There are also Commonwealth War graves in the graveyard.
