Crickhowell Bridge

Highlight • River

Crickhowell bridge is a pretty crossing point of the River Usk.

Crickhowell itself is a small market town with the remains of a motte and bailey castle built by the Normans.

An amazing view point and almost alpine descent. Ride over the top of the moors from the mining valleys and see the amazing green of the Brecon Beacons below. You can see the lakes and hills stretching out in front of you and then drop down into the landscape at breakneck speed! Good road surface and some switchbacks make for a fun time descending. You can climb up it of course but remember to look behind you to catch the view.

West Shore Road, Pontsticill Reservoir

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

If you're not equipped for the gravel track on the East shore of Pontsticill Reservoir, the road on the West shore offers a fun tarmac alternative. A nice long straight to crank out some speed, or if it's the views you're after a nice viewpoint from the lay-by.

Blaen-y-Glyn Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Blaen-y-glyn climb gives beautiful views of the Brecon Beacons on a clear day! Big descent on the other side! If you're not in a rush, pull over into the car park at the top and go and explore the waterfalls on foot.

Stop in this little cafe all the time when I am hiking or biking. In fact I think I have invested enough in the place to have a shares dividend, especially the amount of chocolate flap jacks I have bought here! If the place is full have a seat in the bus shelter across the road, it has its own library!

Talybont Stone Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

A lovely quiet road along the canal, this is a scenic alternative to the A40 that avoids the big climb up to Bwlch.

Especially gorgeous in the autumn months with the tree-lined way all shades of colours!
