Here is the northern turning point of the so-called Kanonenbahn cycle path. The cycle path between Frieda (Meinhard) and Dingelstädt, set up in the former second track bed, was only completed in October 2019.

This section is awesome. The quality of the bike path is great. Very often there are benches to rest. The 5 tunnels are an experience. The signs are perfect. It's just fun.

Very easy tour, I was on a Biobike, I hardly had to pedal, only in the town of Lengenfeld was it a bit steep uphill and downhill for a few meters. There were five of us on the tour.

A very nice bike path. It would have been a bit boring without the five tunnels, though. It was quite cold for most of it: only 8 degrees Celsius! But there were plenty of rest stops. Just not at the end point in Dingelstädt.

Today, my darling and I rode the Kanonenbahn cycle path.
With the beautiful weather, it was a very nice ride.
Unfortunately, the "Lindenhof" restaurant in Küllstedt is closed until April 18th - Good Friday.
But all the tunnels are easily navigable, and that was the most important thing for us - just ride through.

Today I went on a bike ride from Frida in Hesse to Dingelstädt in Thuringia. It's a nice, easy-to-ride path, but from Frieda onward it's always uphill, but manageable except for a few short stretches. The tunnels are a great way to cool off on warm days. The longest tunnel on this route is 1,530 meters. Check it out.

Everyone who drives into the damp Kühlstedt tunnel, which is only 9 degrees warm, at 27 degrees in the shade, shivering, especially when the headwind whistles right through the tunnel. The visor, glasses and mirrors fog up. You're glad when the warm air warms your clammy hands after 1.5 km.
I actually wanted to go up to the ruins of …

A beautiful tour in the best weather on or near the route of the former cannon railway. The viaduct in Lengenfeld is very impressive to look at from below. The rattling of the trolleys is quite loud. It goes steadily uphill until Dingelstädt. From there the path took me to the train station in Silberhausen on the Unstruth.
A route …

This was our tour on the Kanonenbahn Cycle Path in 2025. We traveled from our accommodation in Mühlhausen by car to the train station in Dingelstädt. The weather was mixed again, with a slight tendency to rain. So, as is almost always the case on the Kanonenbahn Cycle Path, we had our rain gear with us, which we did end …
