Napoleon Bridge over the Soča Gorge

Highlight • Bridge

This extremely photogenic bridge crosses the Soča near Kobarid over a narrow rocky channel. The transition at this point has always been important. Only a few places along the raging river offered the opportunity to build a bridge.

In 1758/1759 the old wooden structure was replaced by a stone arch bridge. At that time there were Napoleonic troops in the region, which is how the building got its famous name.

However, none of the French were involved in the construction. The bridge was blown up during the Isonzo battles in World War I and was only rebuilt after the war.

Such a nice round, I can fully recommend! It mainly has three parts: Up up up, steady-state possible because not too steep. Nicely down, at least the knees seemed okay. And up and down along the Isonzo with a beautiful view all the time!
Th round is mostly in the shadows and you'll find two little possibilities for refreshement along …
