The Abbey Gate

Highlight • Monument

"The Abbey of Saint-Pierre was ransacked in 1794 and destroyed in 1817. Currently, the following remain:
- part of the surrounding wall with its door,
- the buildings of the old abbey farm,
- 18th century buildings,
- the Saint-Ursmer collegiate church and
- the Portelette (18th century), which is a tourist attraction.
This beautiful baroque entrance, called Porte de Thudinie or La Portelette, was the exit on the road leading to the town of Binche. It was undoubtedly built by Father Ursmer Rancelot (who died in 1718), who is known to have done extensive work.
On the door, you can see three works by E. Malherbe: Landelin's poverty, Ursmer's good nature and hidden in the garden, The crucified mother. "

The Mouligneau Mill

Highlight • Monument

Located at the bottom of the rue du Mouligneau, near the Saint-Ghislain wood and the Moranfayt farm, the water mill is built next to the miller's house. In fact, in 1424, the Abbey of Saint-Ghislain acquired this mill. Subsequently, at an unspecified date, it is transferred to an individual. In 1743, it belonged to an inhabitant of Dour who continued to pay an annuity to the abbey of Saint-Ghislain in order to be able to enjoy the use of the mill.
In 1857, the mill was put up for sale. Thus, François Mollet, acquires it and rebuilds new facilities. In 1861, he transformed it again by installing there in particular a steam engine intended to supplement the increasingly insufficient and irregular hydraulic force. In 1865, the buildings were again completely rebuilt. Subsequently, in 1898, following an inheritance, an annuitant from Ath and a miller from Dour became co-owners. However, Jean-Baptiste Mollet-Gobert became the sole owner of the mill in 1902.
In 1903, the mill was transformed into a brewery in which, in 1917, the hydraulic motor was still used to drive the brewery's devices. In addition, the hydraulic installations are also used for the milling. They were decommissioned in 1944. The pond was then backfilled so that the millstones of the mill were buried there.
