De Herder Windmill (Medemblik)

The mill at the Westerpoort in Medemblik is mentioned on maps as early as 1555. After almost 400 years of service, the mill was demolished in 1947.

In 1985, the “Stichting de Medemblikker Meelmolen” was founded and the octagon of the 300-year-old Zaanse oil mill De Herder was purchased. This mill stood from 1695 to 1903 between Jisp and Wormer and then more than 80 years in Willeskop.

From 1986, enthusiastic volunteers and professional millwrights started dismantling the mill in Willeskop and rebuilding it in Medemblik.

Start in Westerland at 8°C, drizzle and even stronger wind than the day before. Past tulip fields to Slootdorp, Wieringerwerf and via Opperdoes to Medemblik.
