The Cloud Summit and Trails

Views across the Cheshire Plain

Highlight • Viewpoint

This clearing on the way up Bosley Cloud provides exceptional views across the flat expanse of the Cheshire Plain. The obvious landmark in the patchwork of fields is the historic Jodrell Bank telescope, easily the most conspicuous sight in the vista.

The Cloud (Bosley Cloud)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Cloud is a prominent hill on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border. One of the highest points for miles around, the summit affords wonderful views over Congleton, Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel, and Greater Manchester. According to legend, a giant king once stood with one foot on Shutlingsloe and one on the Cloud. When the giant stepped-off the Cloud, his shoe got stuck and it became the rocky summit.

Gnarly section of The Cloud single track. There is a few steps at the start of climbing and the track is interlaced with wooden logs preventing water erosion so you’re required to dismount and push your bike.

Cloudside Climb

Cloudside might sound like a lovely name for a road, but it's a tough little berg from either side! Not the longest or steepest in the area but you'll know about it. Great views and a good surface though.

The Bridestones Cairn

Highlight • Historical Site

So pleased I included the Bridestones on my route. The Cairn is situated in a lovely fenced area with a cottage garden feel. It has an extremely calm ambience and offerings of ribbons and flowers can be found on the stones or hanging from nearby trees. A hidden gem that was lovely to visit.
