Oberscheinfeld Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

The until the 16th century In 1114-1202 castle called "Scheinfeld" was the seat of a noble family of the same name. In 1202 Friderich de Scevvelt borrowed money from Bishop Thiemo of Bamberg, whereupon the castle fell to the diocese of Bamberg. In 1339 the castle appeared in the Bamberg Castle Hat Directory when Johann von Dachsbach, Vogt and Ritter von Scheinfeld were awarded a hearth "behind the tower" with vines. After 1366 the castle changed hands repeatedly, including the Bamberg canon Count Albrecht von Wertheim and the Knights of Kappel. In 1504 the castle was called dilapidated, in 1545 it was broken to build the castle in Oberscheinfeld. Late 19th century and in 1972/73 the tower was opened, which was carefully renovated in 1999-2001 by the Steigerwald Club, Oberscheinfeld branch.
