Summit cross of Geigelstein

Highlight • Summit

At 1,808 m, the Geigelstein is the second highest peak in the Bavarian part of the Chiemgau Alps and is known as the Chiemgauer Blumenberg and observation tower. In 1991, large areas of the Geigelstein were designated as a nature reserve. (Source: Wikipedia)

Actually a wonderful mountain with a view - unfortunately we weren't so lucky, but the way from Huben was beautiful. Maybe we can enjoy the summit happiness another time with a wonderful view of the Kampenwand - but this time with the MTB's to the Priener Hütte. Our descent is ideal for a bike & hike.

April 28, 2025,Geigelstein – Priener Hütte Runde von Ettenhausen
It starts off quite relaxed, and after about 280 meters of elevation gain, it gets a bit steeper and stays that way. Shortly before the summit (approx. 300 meters elevation gain), the forest path ends and what is commonly called a hiking trail begins – and then it increases in gradient quite steadily. The summit is quite flat, with plenty …

Stefan and I share the same fate 😒

and a passion for hiking 🥾😃.

Hence -> Widower Tour 😉.

This time Stefan invited me to his "hunting ground,"

-> lots of elevation gain 🏔, within a short distance.

Another companion is Stefan's dog "Mausi," aka Maja.

Dog 🐕? I think it's a chamois, wearing a dog costume.

The starting point is actually the Berghotel Breitenstein .... But unfortunately we couldn't drive to the Berghotel (nature reserve). Therefore we started from the Geigelsteinbahn car park. This makes the tour longer. It was a total of 17.04 km.

From the Geigelstein parking lot in Ettenhausen we went along the somewhat desolate forest road to the Wuhrsteinalm (closed at the moment). Through the valley basin, on the left the Breitenstwon, on the right you can see the Geigelstein, past the Wirtsalm, the steep ascent begins over the meadow, through the mountain pines and gravel to the summit. There you …

Turned on the tracking about 100 hm too late uphill ;-)

Start was at the Alpenhotel. But you can drive 300 m to the hiking car park.
Beginning of August. It was a very hot and very strenuous hike. Only recommended for well-trained and experienced hikers. But the tour is rewarded with a great view of the summit and other wonderful views.

Great hike today in wonderful weather!
I can only recommend the tour. Thanks also to @Hans for this recommendation!

Great view, beautiful area 😌

Showing Translation

Pretty steep! 😥 The ascent to Geigelstein is very strenuous, as the last part is only over scree. But the view is amazing! When we were up, one cloud after the other passed through. The way back over the Breitenstein is even more beautiful.
