Eselsburg Valley Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

Path left and right along the course of the river. Mixture of gravel and meadow ground. Good parking and entry possibilities for inflatable boats and kayaks from Anhausen. In Eselsburg itself there are several points of contact for the hiking excursion, here there is something to eat, play and discover. From then on, you can continue on a tarred road to Herbrechtingen and marvel at the stone virgins. A little further on, climbing skills can be tried out on practice rocks.

Orion and I often walk here, because meadows, forests, hills and rocks alternate. Many round trips are selectable depending on preferences. Fully recommended for the whole family! 👍👍

Anhausen Abbey on the Brenz

Highlight • Religious Site

The Benedictine monastery Anhausen, founded in 1125, is located at the beginning of the Eselsburger valley.

The buildings are privately owned and used as agricultural and residential buildings. They are no longer publicly available. Outside the buildings, however, the monastery complex can mostly be entered and visited, which is well worthwhile. The monastery buildings are well preserved and it is interesting to see how they are used today.
The "Gasthaus zum Tor" in the former Klosterschenke seems to have ceased its operation. (As of 08 April 2017)
Numerous hiking trails lead directly past the monastery.
