Lietzow Beach

Highlight • Beach

Flat, warm Boddenwasser. Ideal for children or a spontaneous foot bath. In addition, a wonderful view over the bay and a quiet beach. When the sun is shining over the water it is beautiful.

In spring, thousands of wood anemones enchant the forest.

An exceptional dendrological rarity is this type of beech called Süntelbuche. It is not a breed, but a very rare mutation of the Fagus sylvatica var. Suentelensis. This addition indicates that this species occurs naturally only in the "Süntel", a highland on Jurassic limestone north of Hameln. Because of their bizarre growth, they are popularly called witch beeches. These crippled beech trees are an attraction in every season. Leafy they form an almost rainproof dome roof, after the fall of leaves the snake-shaped branches that are nested several times by kink growth can be admired.

Semper Castle Water Tower Ruin

Highlight • Monument

With the construction of Semper Castle, a water tower was built on the highest point for the water supply. In order to integrate this structure into the natural environment (forest), the facade was faced very elaborately with field stones, so that this tower gives the appearance of a medieval ruin. It was in function until around 1953. With the restoration of the forest park, the heavily damaged facade was restored and the undergrowth was cleared.

Ruins always fascinate. This has just got a new roof.

The Semper Forest Park near Lietzow covers approx. 38 hectares, is part of the Semper Heide and was built around 1920 when the castle was built. In its eventful history, the palace and forest park were used as a paramilitary training facility from 1963 to 1990, and the once imposing and aesthetic park elements fell into disrepair or were overgrown by trees.
The Landschaftspflegeverband Ostrügen e.V. restored this forest park from 2000 to 2002 based on the historical model.

The cascade ponds, which were very heavily muddy, were restored with great effort. They catch the rainwater from the surrounding heights. There is a small island with two 100 year old oaks, to which a wooden bridge leads. The drainage takes place via a fieldstone channel in the Great Jasmunder Bodden. These ponds are of great importance as amphibian spawning waters.
