Hendrickson Park

Highlight • Rest Area

Hendrickson Park is a lovely village park with a cycling / walking path running around Valley Stream Pond. With picnic benches it makes a lovely spot to take a mid ride break. Please be courteous of other path users.

Alley Pond Park Greenway

Highlight • Cycleway

I would not consider this a destination, nor a point of exploration. It's a sanctuary for those who live nearby and an oasis for those of us passing through, which includes cyclists and birds. It's a cool and refreshing treat when making your way between points of nature. If it's convenient add it to your route.

Hempstead Lake State Park

Highlight • Lake

Good size lake here with trails and paths and fields. Popular spot when the weather is good. I wouldn't really recommend the lake loop on a road bike, though: pavement is uneven and turns to dirt near the north end. Lake Drive is the most pleasant part. Bonus: this is a reliable spot to see nesting Great-horned Owls in early springtime.

Highlight • Lake

Hempstead Lake is a tranquil freshwater lake surrounded by scenic parkland. Spanning over 100 acres, the lake offers opportunities for fishing, boating, and picnicking. The lake is surrounded by a nice walking trail, that serves as the perfect location for a stroll.

South Pond

Highlight • Lake

Riding through Hempstead Lake State Park is a pleasure, whether you're just passing by or making a mid-ride stop, you'll find everything in the area. The park stands out for its three bodies of freshwater. South Pond is located just south of McDonald Pond, and it is also a popular fishing spot.
