Restaurant Casa Efigenia La Montaña

Highlight • Restaurant

Small restaurant with local cuisine. During our visit there was only one dish (menu), but you could also only order individual parts of the menu, e.g. salad. Very tasty and inexpensive. The owner only spoke Spanish, you could communicate with hands and feet.

Laguna Grande Recreation Area

Highlight • Rest Area

"Laguna Grande" is located in a dry crater lake on the southwest edge of the Parque Nacional de Garajonay. Apart from the car park, there is a children's adventure playground, several fire pits, sanitary facilities and a restaurant.

Laguna Grande is the starting point of several hiking trails. In addition, a twenty-minute nature trail through the laurel forest begins next to the playground.

Many locals are also among the visitors here during the day. However, they avoid visiting at night, as legend has it that this place is where witches gather.

Garajonay National Park

Highlight • Forest

The evergreen cloud forest Garajonay with its unique atmosphere is fascinating in the heart of La Gomera. The area around the highest mountain, Alto de Garajonay (1487 m), has been protected as a national park since 1981 and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.

With its unique ecosystem, the Garajonay National Park in the protected interior of La Gomera is home to the Laurisilva forest, a remnant of the subtropical forests that covered the Mediterranean region in the Tertiary period.

Here it is still the original laurel forest in the Alto de Garajonay.
The forests in the park are a relic of the Tertiary subtropical laurel forests that were also common in Europe and the Mediterranean (Southern Europe, North Africa and Southwest Asia). While these plants disappeared in Europe during the ice ages (in the Mediterranean area during the last ice age), this plant community was able to survive in part on La Gomera, on the other Canary Islands, as well as on Madeira and the Azores (Macaronesian Islands).

Beautiful trip on an e-trekking bike.

Komoot doesn't recognize the e-bike category for me 🤔
This morning, the bike rental company took us from Valle Gran Rey to Arure because that section is very steep and tough.

Upon arrival, we got on our bikes and started a beautiful tour.
Via Las Hays, Chipude, and Igualero to Alajero and the final …

I have a good 25 kg of luggage with me and am thrilled with my Pinion gearbox. It wasn't easy with the wind and rain in the mountains. Leg warmers, Merino shirt, rain jacket and trousers were used. As soon as we go south the blue sky appears.
