Schwedenschanzen in Lauerholz

Highlight • Historical Site

The name "Schwedenschanze" is actually wrong. The name comes from the fact that old fortifications were simply called that in the past.
This rampart consists of up to five ramparts and was intended to protect the Lübsche area from the Mecklenburgers.

Hohe Meile forest area

Highlight • Forest

If you want to climb a few meters in the supposedly flat north, you can let off steam in the "Hohe Meile" forest area. Although mainly on forest highways it goes up and down here. It gets rougher towards the banks of the Trave. Unfortunately, there are many dead ends there.

Old Customs House Herrnburg

Highlight • Historical Site

The Herrnburg village church in the Herrnburg district of the Lüdersdorf community is a single-nave brick Gothic church. It is located in the center of Herrnburg, surrounded by pastorate, old customs house, former watermill, former restaurant buildings and the fire station. In the Ratzeburg tithe register, Herrnburg is not mentioned in 1230. The church is first documented in 1319. The place Herrnburg is first mentioned in 1399.
The organ was built in 1883/84 by the organ builder Friedrich Albert Mehmel on the west gallery. In 2014 it was restored by Reinalt Johannes Klein. The instrument has 10 registers, which are divided into two manuals and pedal.

Nice, easy single trail. All the trees that had been lying over the path for years - one of them not mobile, were actually sawed open after all. Free path for free bikers!

Heath Trail – without borders

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

There are many beautiful paths in the Lauerholz and in the Schönberg State Forest in the Palinger Heide. Those who cross the former border between the FRG and the GDR - still clearly recognizable here through the course of the moat - are the most natural. Although the Palinger Heide was largely afforested, you can still find a piece of the original heathland here. Beautiful not only for the heather bloom! Even if the "Green Ribbon" colored in purple is of course particularly worth seeing.
The mostly narrow sandy path peppered with a few small roots can be driven brisk as far as possible. There is also a bench for a rest. Often you can watch the moor at work.

DWM Shooting Range Bullet Trap

Highlight • Monument

Even if it's really close to the border. Since the Landgraben clearly marks the border, this is definitely NOT in the territory of the former GDR!
It is probably an even older testimony to another dark era in German history:
From 1934 onwards, the DWM (German Weapons and Ammunition Factories) set up shooting ranges up to 1.9 km long in Lübeck to test the effectiveness of their ammunition. [Jungbluth, R., The Quandts: Germany's most successful entrepreneurial family, Campus Verlag, 2015]
Private Internet sources suggested (the sites in question no longer exist) that it was the bullet trap of the large shooting range.

November 18, 2023,Teschower Spitze in Sichtweite...😅🍂🍁🌤️
If it hadn't been so late, I would have tackled the tip of the peninsula.😁 The section near Palinger Heide on the way back is not recommended, the path is impassable due to fallen tree trunks. (Photo 13/14) I shortened the way back a little, I didn't want to meet wild boars...🐗😜

Showing Translation

The path behind Palingen is partly very overgrown and sandy. The path towards Teschow is great, if you still have enough power in your legs you will have a lot of fun
