Road cycling
Its name derives from a "marmor miliarium", that is a milestone, found in this area. It belonged to an ancient Roman road of the 1st century. B.C., Via Aemilia Scauri, which connected Cecina with Pisa.
The Latin origin of the name is also testified by the fact that the nearby village of Colognole takes its name from "coloniola", that is a small colony of military origin.
