A church built in the turmoil of World War I is something special. The Jävenitzer church is one of these churches. It was consecrated on October 7, 1917. At that time, the war was far from over. This would not be until a good year later, on November 11, 1918, with the signing of the Compiègne ceasefire agreement.

The Jävenitz village church, a striking brick building, was built between 1914 and 1918 and consecrated on October 7, 1917, during the First World War. The building is a Gothic-style hall structure with a recessed rectangular chancel and a square tower in the west. The delicate blind tracery decorations on the tower are particularly striking. The artistic design of the chancel was completed in 1920 and 1921.

The village church of Jävenitz is a beautiful destination for anyone exploring the Altmark region on foot or by bike. It is located in the middle of the historic village center and invites you to take a short break in a quiet atmosphere. The approach through the forest- and heath-rich landscape on the edge of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide is particularly charming. Those who travel here combine nature enjoyment with a small piece of regional history – a worthwhile stopover on any hiking or cycling tour.
