In 1960, a competition for the construction of a church and for that time was common, an adjacent community center advertised. Erich Rossmann decided this for himself and so the building began in a slightly different form in 1963. The consecration was celebrated on December 20, 1964. A special feature of the Lukasgemeinde: In the Lukaskirche the community of the hearing-impaired and deaf Karlsruhe meets once a month for worship for the deaf.
