Hiking

Worth a trip in both winter and summer. From the Itz spring it is always uphill but in good weather you are rewarded with a fantastic view from the observation tower. It costs a small fee of 1 euro, so don't forget your change. The hiking restaurant is not always open as it is run by the Thuringian Forest Association, but it is always worth stopping by. Unfortunately the bark beetle has already struck here too and the otherwise dense forest has been decimated. But there are now more beautiful viewpoints towards Franconia and southern Thuringia.
