The river arises from the confluence of many source streams in the Mangfall Mountains below the original pass. The main source stream is the Sillbach, which rises on the eastern slope of the Maroldschneid near the Wirthsalm. It then flows north in the original valley, from where it joins the Wackbach under the name Aubach, and turns north-west near Bayrischzell. From here the river is called Leitzach. It flows through the Leitzach valley to Feldkirchen-Westerham, where it flows into the Mangfall. Source and further information
