Both Kastelholmen and the neighboring island Skeppholmen were naval bases. In 1660, a first citadel was build on the island which was of great importance as all ships had to pass by in order to reach Stockholm. It is highly recommended to walk around Kastelholmen and enjoy the view on Gröna Lund/Djurgarden as well as other parts of the island.
