High above Terracina, the ruins of the Roman Temple of Giove Anxur from the 1st century BC tower. There are historical theses that the monumental, widely visible temple complex served in antiquity as a gigantic lighthouse for ships on the open sea, showing the way to the important port of the Via Appia. Archaeologically, it is a sanctuary.
