The Beaumont tower is an old beacon, i.e. a fire tower whose light signaled the coast to navigators sailing on the Gironde estuary.
It was built at an indeterminate time, with estimates varying from the Middle Ages to the early 19th century. It is a remarkable landmark, i.e. a reference point, a mark, a signal for sailors heading towards one of the ports on the right bank, Mortagne or Port Maubert.
