The nickname Gauler Dom is not without reason. The church in Melhus is an imposing Neo-Gothic stone building from 1892. During the demolition of the medieval predecessor from the 12th century, a perfectly preserved stonemason's axe from around 1100 was found in a wall. The only known tool of its kind from that era in all of Norway. It is now in the Technical Museum in Oslo. Those who look closely can discover runes from the Middle Ages at the portal.
