The Schwedenstein south of the 'Grafeneiche' is one of Asel's oldest cultural monuments. The weathered stele presumably dates from the 15th century and belongs to the so-called cross stones, which were erected as memorial or penance markers. Pause for a moment and look at the still recognizable relief remnants – with a little imagination, you can discover the crucified Christ, a kneeling figure, and the inscription 'dem god gnedig sey' (may God be merciful).
