Located in the rugged blufflands of southeastern Minnesota, Zumbro Falls Woods Scientific and Natural Area (SNA) protects one of the state's most pristine examples of oak-hickory forest. Spanning over 200 acres along the Zumbro River, this site is a sanctuary for rare species and diverse topography.
The area is characterized by steep, north-facing slopes and deep ravines that create unique microclimates. Visitors can find majestic red oaks, sugar maples, and basswoods, alongside rare plants like Adoxa (moschatel). Its undisturbed habitat also provides critical nesting grounds for forest-interior birds, making it a quiet, essential gem for Minnesota’s conservation efforts.
