Ybbs an der Donau is one of the most historically significant towns in Lower Austria and is located exactly where the Enns-Donau-Winkel ends and the Alpine foothills begin. It is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Nibelungengau". The former Bürgerspital houses one of the most important bicycle museums in Europe. It shows the development from the running bike (Draisine) to the modern racing bike. Since the Danube Cycle Path runs here, the town is an extremely popular stop for cyclists. There is even a special bike service station directly on the Donaulände.
