    Hiking

The Penna nave is a conical glacial conformation that lies on the north side of Mount Penna. Its shape recalls the hull of a ship and in the center you can also find an altar where mass is celebrated once a year. The wall surrounding the depression is known by the name Rocce della Neve, a real barrier that connects the Chiodo pass to Mount Penna and Trevine.

Embark on a challenging hike up Monte Penna, a difficult route covering 7.2 miles (11.6 km) with a significant elevation gain of 1554 feet (474 metres). This journey typically takes around 4 hours and 20 minutes to complete. You will ascend through dense beech forests, eventually reaching the sacred summit where panoramic views await.

This stage of the Sentiero dei Celti e dei Liguri begins at Casermette del Penna and concludes in Giaiette. For those relying on public transport, the trail conveniently connects to Passo del Chiodo, which is accessible by bus. Plan your visit to allow ample time for the ascent and descent, especially given the route's demanding nature.

This trail offers a deep dive into ancient history, traversing landscapes considered sacred for over two millennia. You will encounter the mystical Nave del Penna, a natural amphitheater with spiritual significance. The route also passes Passo dell'Incisa, an important historical crossing point on the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, named for its Roman past.
