The Wichernkirche was built in 1963 and consecrated on November 29, 1969. In 2021, it was closed due to the risk of collapse caused by roof damage. On Easter Monday 2022, it was deconsecrated. In the same year, the church was sold to the company Depant Bauträger GmbH & Co. KG. This company plans to build four residential buildings on the 2300 square meter property. The demolition of the main building began in May 2024
