What once loomed over the Heiligengeistfeld as a grey concrete monolith from olden times is today a symbol of sustainable urban development and creative transformation: The green bunker St. Pauli impressively shows how a place from the past can become a space for the future.
The former air-raid shelter has been extended by five floors, greened, and equipped with a publicly accessible roof garden at a height of 58 meters. Via a spiral mountain path winding around the facade, you reach a green oasis with over 23,000 plants, which not only beautify the cityscape but also improve the microclimate.

The flak tower on Heiligengeistfeld served as a central air defense point and air raid shelter for downtown Hamburg during World War II. It was built so massive (3.5m walls, 5m ceilings) that all attempts to remove the building after the war failed.
The building has been used privately for several decades and is currently being topped up with greenery.
