The nineteenth-century artist Eugeen Van Mieghem was such a Scheldt adept. Born and raised in the beating heart of the port, he grew up on the Van Meterenkaai and on the Eilandje. Antwerp, together with the Van Mieghem Foundation, honored the bond between the painter and his home port with five life-sized bronze statues on the Eilandje. Based on his work, the Dutch sculptor Carla Kamphuis-Meijer made Wiske on the Godefriduskaai.
