Hiking

The current Franciscan Gate, dating from 1494, was not built for military purposes; at that time, an outer ring of fortifications existed for this purpose. It is an inland gate and served more as a purely representative gate, or rather, as an entry and exit gate for Überlingen's main trade route. This connected Greth and the lakeside landing stage with the fertile hinterland, where the grain traded at the Überlingen market was grown.
