The Burgrave of Rietenburg (also Burgrave of Riedenburg) refers to a minnesinger from the Babonen family, whose seven surviving stanzas are found in the Codex Manesse and the Weingarten Song Manuscript. However, this traditional designation as Burgrave of Rietenburg is misleading, as Riedenburg was not a burgraviate but merely a county. This is also reflected in the depiction of the minnesinger in the Weingarten Song Manuscript, where he wears a five-pointed count's crown, while the Burgrave of Regensburg in the Codex Manesse is depicted with a princely hat. Furthermore, many members of the Babonen family were also Counts of Riedenburg.[2]
