Hiking

The barrage, with its modern architecture and tranquil river landscape, is a popular resting place along the Main Cycle Path. From here, you have beautiful views of the river and the surrounding vineyards. Especially early in the morning or in the evening, the light creates stunning reflections on the water—an ideal photo spot.

Hiking

With the increasing size of ships, the tight radii of the Main loop became a problem in the 20th century. Therefore, between 1950 and 1957, the Main Canal was built, bypassing the southern part of the Main loop. Along with the Main Canal, a lock and a hydroelectric power plant were also created. Nordheim and Sommerach thus became island villages on the "Wine Island".
