Cycling
A small town with a great history.
The village owes its existence to the Grande Levée d'Anjou, which was built over the centuries to counter the river's flooding. The rise of the Loire navy later transformed Saint-Clément-des-Levées into a real boatmen's village.
Like most of the communes of Saumur on the right bank of the Loire, Saint-Clément-des-Levées remained virtually uninhabited until the construction of a first earth and stone dike in the 12th century.
In 1505, the construction of a chapel dedicated to Saint Clement, patron saint of sailors, gave the village its new name.
