This stave church is one of the oldest in Norway, probably built in 1130.
In 1880 a monument preservation association bought the church from the municipality of Vik to preserve it.
Admission is charged and an information leaflet worth reading is distributed in various languages.
Incidentally, you can be unlucky if several buses with crusaders "flood" the little church.

Hiking

The church is definitely worth the entrance fee (80 crowns adults). Preserved inscriptions, graffiti and wall paintings from the Middle Ages and early modern times make the church an experience! There are also guides who show and explain details.

Well-preserved wooden church. Can also be visited from the inside. Admission was €3 in October 2022.
The church gets its dark color from a coat of tar.
