    Cycling

    These sea birds normally only nest on cliffs but not here on the Tyne! This is the most inland nesting site in the UK and very unusual and uncharacteristic. You can find them on the Baltic (Art Gallery) and the Tyne Bridge but also on this custom made 'tower'. They usually favour precipitous ledges on cliffs but here are content with the narrow ledges provided for them. A very good info board telling you everything you need to know about these extraordinary seabirds. Pack your binoculars for this one!

    Obviously nesting is seasonal, but you should be able to see them between late April/early May to August after which they disperse with the young sometimes going as far afield as the North American Coast! They are named after their cry 'kitti-waaark'.
