The Roman Catholic cemetery at Oud-Emmeloord, which commemorates the Schokland settlement until its evacuation in 1859, is marked with a specially designed artwork. In 2004, the National Postcode Lottery provided a substantial sum to Het Flevo-landschap for Schokland. The project's goal was to preserve and enhance the unique character of Schokland—an island in the polder landscape. Thanks to this special contribution, Het Flevo-landschap, in collaboration with its Schokland partners, has been able to realize many ambitions, including marking the Roman Catholic cemetery, which is not recognizable as such.
