The place was first mentioned in 1192. Soon after, in 1192, it was mentioned in connection with the activities of the Doberan Cistercians. In 1313, it was confirmed that Gallin and Zarchlin belonged to the Doberan monastery. The monks built a chapel here and established a cemetery, intended primarily for travelers, especially pilgrims.
