Prien has been the economic and ecclesiastical center of western Chiemgau since the 12th century. The parish church of the Assumption of Mary, built between 1736 and 1738, impresses with the enormous ceiling fresco of the Naval Battle of Lepanto by the Munich court artist Johann Baptist Zimmermann. The Prien tower relocation of 1736 has gone down in history, in which the 40 meter high spire was moved from the old to the new tower. The model for moving the tower is in the local history museum in Prien a. Visit Chiemsee.
