There is parking along the side of Sisemore Road, which makes for a great place to start your ride with pretty views across the reservoir. Bull Creek Dam is right next to the parking pull-off.

Embark on a challenging road cycling adventure with the Shevlin Park – Tumalo Reservoir loop from Cinder Cone Natural Area, a route that immerses you in Central Oregon's diverse landscapes. You'll pedal through the tranquil old-growth ponderosa pine forests of Shevlin Park, transition to high desert terrain with sagebrush and farmlands, and enjoy continuous, sweeping views of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains. The route also features picturesque crossings of the Deschutes River, showcasing its wetlands and ranches, making for a truly varied and scenic experience.

This difficult 46.3-mile (74.6 km) loop involves a substantial 2095 feet (638 metres) of elevation gain, requiring good fitness for its estimated 5 hours and 18 minutes duration. While much of the route is paved, including improved bike lanes on Tumalo Reservoir Road, be prepared for some significant climbs and potentially a few short unpaved segments. Starting from the Cinder Cone Natural Area, you'll connect to established routes like the Twin Bridges Scenic Bikeway, so plan your navigation accordingly.

What makes this route stand out is its unique blend of ecosystems, offering a rapid transition from high-desert terrain to lush riparian areas along Tumalo Creek and the Deschutes River. The Shevlin Park section provides a car-free paved road, a rare treat for cyclists, and the entire journey offers a chance to spot local wildlife amidst the stunning natural features. It's a fantastic option for experienced road cyclists seeking a long, rewarding ride with ever-changing vistas.
