This shell gallery is one of the most beautiful galleries in Northwest Europe. It was built around 1730 according to the design of landscape architect Daniel Marot, who was also responsible for the gardens of Het Loo. The shells that can be admired here are very unique and come from different coastal areas around the world.
The central feature of the gallery is a water staircase, with water flowing from the mouths of two marble dolphins. Behind the shell gallery is a special conifer called Calocedrus decurrens, native to North America. This columnar cypress was planted in 1866.
