Until 1864, Lange Straße was called "Lange Gasse". And it really was the longest street in the city of Spremberg. It went from the market square to Johannisgasse, where the Lange Tor, also known as the Hoyerswerdaer Tor, was located. Lange Straße was always the center of the city's commercial and social life. This was also emphasized by the presence of many shops and, above all, many restaurants.
