The church in Oberwil near Büren, formerly St. Maria, was built between the 12th and 17th centuries. Previous buildings date from the 9th to 12th centuries. The church is located on the western edge of the village in a dominant position on a steep hillside terrace that slopes down towards the street and is secured by retaining walls. The east-facing solid building with a Romanesque tower has a late Gothic choir. Notable furnishings include the pulpit from 1625, the baptismal font from 1689 and the glass panes by Andreas Fueter from 1710-11.
