The Barbara Chapel on the slag heap in Penzberg was built by the Jungritter social club to mark its 50th anniversary. The construction work was largely carried out by the club itself, and the building materials were mainly financed through donations. The front and gable walls were built from tuff, based on the surrounding rock used in coal mining. The wooden, elongated roof structure symbolizes the mine development. The free-standing bell tower is modeled on the shaft winding tower. The chapel was dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners.
