Embark on the CCC and Poplar Point Trail Loop for a moderate hiking adventure through Kings Mountain State Park. This 8.4-mile (13.4 km) route takes you through dense hardwood forests, especially vibrant with flowering trees in spring and colorful in fall. You will gain 439 feet (134 metres) in elevation, following the scenic Clarks Fork with its peaceful water features and crossing several creeks along the way. Expect to spend around 4 hours and 25 minutes exploring this rewarding trail.
When planning your visit, remember that this trail is located within Kings Mountain State Park. The CCC Trail section is multi-use, so you might share parts of it with horseback riders. Look for orange blazes to guide your way. It is important to carry enough water, as access points are limited once you are past the initial creek crossings.
This loop offers a chance to experience the unique monadnocks, which are small mountains rising from the surrounding flatland, providing enjoyable views. The park itself has a rich history, largely shaped by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Keep an eye out for local wildlife like deer or wild turkeys as you hike through this historically significant area.
