The Branch Brook Park loop offers a delightful escape into nature, even within an urban setting. You'll jog along paved paths that wind through open meadows, past small wooded sections, and alongside the serene Branch Brook Lake, with views of Clark's Pond. The scenery is diverse, featuring meandering streams and charming pedestrian bridges, making for a consistently pleasant experience.
This easy 2.4-mile (3.8 km) jogging route involves only 54 feet (16 metres) of elevation gain and takes about 25 minutes to complete. Parking is available within Branch Brook Park, and while it's lovely year-round, visiting in spring to see the famous cherry blossoms is a truly special experience. Arriving early is recommended, especially during peak season, to find parking and enjoy the park at its most peaceful.
Branch Brook Park holds significant historical value as the nation's first county park, with its design refined by the renowned Olmsted Brothers. It's also home to the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the United States, boasting over 4,000 trees. A segment of the 36-mile Lenape Trail also runs through the park, providing opportunities for longer runs if you wish to explore beyond the loop.
