"It is the highest stone bridge in Crete and certainly one of Amari's most impressive recent monuments. It owes its name to the architect Sima, who designed it at the beginning of the 20th century. Construction, which had already begun during the years of Cretan independence, was only completed in 1912 after Crete's union with Greece, in order to create a drivable road connecting Amari with Rethymno."
