Doline also known as sinkhole, karst funnel or karst hole. Dolines always form through dissolution processes in rocks that are capable of karstification, i.e. rocks that are relatively easily soluble in groundwater or surface water (see also → chemical weathering). These are evaporites (especially rock salt and gypsum) and carbonates (limestone and dolomite). Since liquid water is essential for the dissolution process, dolines mainly form in humid tropical to temperate climates. (Wikipedia)
