Pollarded willows, which are often white willows
or hybrid willows, are trees exploited
in a particular way by man.
Thanks to regular pruning - approximately every 10 years, the “head shape” gradually appears at the top of the tree. Rot often sets in where the branches have been cut, hollows will appear in these
locations.
Formerly, willows cut into pollards filled a significant economic role. Their young Shoots were used to tie vines, and they were also used in basketry. The wood of Willow lends itself well to making handles for tools. The largest branches were used
wood to burn.
