A ferry was already mentioned here in the 14th century. It gained particular importance after the construction and commissioning of the railway line through the Elbe valley from Dresden/Drážďany to Podmokly/Bodenbach in 1851. As a result of the Second World War, ferry service ended in 1945 and was re-established in 1997.
